In my world, nothing is named by accident. From Bronsen David Raleigh to Darren Ezekiel Barnard to Ynobi Isadora Jones, every name tells a story.
The lifestyle club that brings my characters together again and again is called Club Inanna. It is named after the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, war, beauty, fertility, and transformation (Zelazo, 2022). Her spirit moves through every page of My Kind of Love and beyond.
In celebration of Pride Month, all of my blog posts will focus on references to queer culture in My Kind of Love. I will start with a two-part series on Inanna. In week three, I will discuss the Armeinius ball and its significance in the story and in the New Orleans community. Finally I conclude with feature on the significance of the colors and flowers in the Warriors of Love & War Series. I am so excited to share with you the themes behind this labor of love.
🥀 Why Inanna?
Inanna is both lover and warrior. She descends into the underworld, strips herself bare, and returns reborn (Zelazo, 2022). Inspired by Inanna’s myths, my characters transform. They fight, let go, and resurrect. And when they love, they love with everything.
🗡️ Bronsen, RMS, and the Cost of Protection
Bronsen and his RMS colleagues are not just security professionals. They are devoted to obtaining justice for the oppressed and marginalized. And sometimes, that devotion requires action and a strong hand in the name of love and protection. And in this series, love is not always gentle. It is sometimes a sacrifice, and is always a choice.
💫 Love, Power, and Sacred Space
The club named after her is more than a place for pleasure. It is a space where people shed the world’s expectations and step into their full selves. Inanna's energy invites transformation through vulnerability and sensuality. Her presence is felt in every whispered name, every kiss between pages, and every time a character dares to be seen fully.
✨ For the Fierce and the Tender
This story is for anyone who has ever loved so deeply that it transforms them. The teachings from Inanna’s myths live in my characters. And in this world, love is power. And power is sacred. This series, titled Warriors of Love and War, honors both the tenderness and the ferocity of love.
Here, love is never a burden. It's something we fight for.
With pride,
xo, Skyline
